When installing a new printer, be sure to uninstall the old printer or change the default printer. If you don't do this you will actually be sending your printing jobs to a printer that is no longer hooked up to the computer.

Many new printers will test and calibrate when they are turned on after being off for a while or not being used. This calibration can take several minutes on some of the larger laser type printers and this is perfectly normal.

There are a variety of online, step by step, do it yourself printer repair videos, manuals and DVD available online and through computer stores. If you are buying or using one of these manuals be sure it is for the same make and model printer as you are trying to repair.
